For the purposes of making downloads of files easier to manage, I’m now using a WebClient. filesget() now takes a DownloadProgressChangedEventHandler and OpenReadCompletedEventHandler as parameters, and these need to be handled appropriately (there’s a good example here of how to handle it).

Currently, it’s just the source, I’m uploading a prebuilt package soon.

I’ve also had a few questions about the license, it’s under GPL, but if you have an app that could benefit, and you’d rather not release source code, send me an email at l3v5y[at]live[dot]co[dot]uk, and I’ll probably say yes

That time has come, and you can now download the library (and source code) from Codeplex. It’s under GPLv2, but contact me if your needs can’t be met under that license.

Currently, their are some functions missing (I’m working on them) but most things should be done soon.

It integrates with the Pictures hub, and the Music+videos hub, so you can transfer media from DropBox to your device relatively seamlessly, though I’m working on adding the Office hub as well.

I’ll also be releasing a library+source code (that gets around the fact that WP7 doesn’t support synchronous web requests for some unknown reason), so you can integrate DropBox with any application you want.

Any feature requests?

In WP7, there are two different places app names are displayed, the “home page”, and the “start menu”. This makes it a little annoying to change the name of your application, as when it’s “Pinned to Start” it’s not necessarily going to display as you’d expect.

The default for an Silverlight application icon looks something like this

and when pinned to start, it looks like

The “Title” attribute in the <App> element defines what’s shown on the start menu when the application is not pinned. Since by default spaces are replaced by underscores, it makes sense to undo that and have something that looks a lot nicer to read.

The <Title> element within <Tokens> defines what is displayed on the home screen when the application is pinned.  

Similarly, the <IconPath> element defines what’s shown when not pinned, and the <BackgroundImageURI> is a URI pointing to the image shown when the application is pinned.

The <Count> element within <Tokens> allows you to set a value for the count indicator when the icon is pinned. This is what’s incremented by push notifications. Setting it to ten before being deployed displays something like the image below. This doesn’t have any effect on icons that are not pinned to the start.

Hopefully this clears up some of the slightly odd behaviour of WP7 and app manifests.
